FEASIBILITY STUDIES ON GENERATION, MEASUREMENT AND APPLICATION TECHNIQUES OF ULTRA-HIGH TEMPERATURE FIELDS BY ARC-DISCHARGE. PART 2: ANALYSIS OF ARC-PLASMA FIELDS

This paper deals in two parts with the theory and application of arc-plasma fields. Part 1 describes the mechanism of the arc discharge with particular reference to the phenomena in the neighbourhood of the cathode. It is pointed out that these are incompletely understood. In Part 2, some analytical approaches to the plasma jet fields generated by the arc discharge, working gas and plasma torch are described and discussed. Industrial applications for these plasma fields include coal gasification, plasma sprayed coatings, and synthesis of new ceramics and ultra-fine particles. The paper concludes with a discussion of the behaviour of particles in a thermal plasma field.
