STABILITY ASSESSMENT OF USCG BARQUE EAGLE
The U.S. Coast Guard training barque "Eagle", built in 1936 with the original name "Horst Wessel" by Blohm & Voss in Germany, has recently been renovated to improve her performance. As part of the renovation, the stability characteristics were studied. Changes in the subdivision, ballast and tankages were made to satisfy the criteria of two-compartment damage stability. The technical background of this stability assessment and the structural modifications are outlined.
