SAFETY AT VEHICLE-ACTUATED PELICAN CROSSINGS
This report is concerned with the safety record of 32 vehicle actuated pelican crossings, 10 of which were converted from zebra crossings; the remaining 22 sites had no previous pedestrian facility. From the data based on 10 pelican crossings converted from zebra crossings, this study found no significant impact on overall accidents. The data based on 22 sites where no previous crossing was provided indicated that accidents overall had increased significantly. The presence of other measures at each site has been noted at the top of each table of results. Pedestrian accidents also increased. (A) /TRRL/
