DESIGNATED PARKING: A CALIFORNIA FIRST
Belvedere, California, is a residential island community on San Francisco Bay. The narrow and winding streets in Belvedere were cause for concern when emergency vehicles had to weave through "serpentines" of parked cars. This article describes the parking alternatives reviewed by the Belvedere City Council and their ultimate choice in establishing designated parking areas. Designated parking allowed the city to maintain its parking capacity and the aesthetic quality of its roadways.
