VIALIT COHESIVITY OF SURFACE DRESSING BINDERS

The Vialit test has been developed over many years as a means of assessing the adhesivity and cohesivity of surface dressing binders over a range of temperatures. Numerous variations to the test have been developed internally by various companies and institutions to compare the performance of emulsion binders and cutbacks. This paper reports the results of a study into the relationship between cohesivity and temperature for a range of emulsions and cut-backs commonly used in surface dressing applications. Using their modified Vialit test, the authors also confirm for the first time an apparent correlation between Vialit temperature data and "classical" bitumen characterisation techniques. (A)
