SHIP SYSTEMS INTEGRATION AND STANDARDISATION

The classical integration solutions employed in the design and construction of modern merchant and naval vessels have revealed severe limitations due not only to the increased interface requirements but also to the autonomy and specialisation of the complex electronic systems installed. The new integration concept and design approach described in this paper is based on three factors: 1. A distributed architecture. 2. The standardisation of hardware and software devices <computers, displays, interfaces, etc.> 3. The gathering of all ship information and data on a "bus structured" communication medium.
