QUARTZ IN PAINT TO PREVENT SLIPPERINESS

KVARTS I FAERG MOT HALKA

A SHORT DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PAINT TO BE USED FOR MARKING PURPOSES ON CONCRETE AND ASPHALT SURFACES (CARRIAGEWAYS, LANDING STRIPS ETC.) THE INVESTIGATIONS AND TESTS WERE PERFORMED BY THE SWEDISH NATIONAL DEFENCE RESEARCH INSTITUTE AND CONCENTRATED ON THE FACTORS OF SLIPPERINESS. A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE PAINT PROPERTIES, MAINLY THE DEPENDENCE OF THE GRAIN SIZE OF THE QUARTZ, IS INCLUDED. THE TESTS INDICATE AN ADMIXTURE OF 6% OF GROUND QUARTZ IN THE PAINT WITH A GRAIN SIZE OF 0,15MM. WITH THIS SIZE THE GRAINS REMAIN IN THE PAINT, A GOOD FRICTION IS ACHIEVED AND TYRE WEAR IS ACCEPTABLE.
