THREE DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO EDGE LOADS

The finite prism method is used for the analysis of road pavements. This method enables a full three-dimensional problem to be solved in similar way to that of A two-dimensional problem, and thus it is possible to examine the effect of edge loads on the pavements, a task hitherto unattempted due to the sheer size of the problem. Several standard problems involving circular load on semi-infinite medium have also been solved by the finite prism method to demonstrate the accuracy attainable. (A) /TRRL0
