Reports an investigation into the safety record of three groups of pelican crossing sites. Group I includes sites converted from zebra crossings, group II sites where no previous crossing of any kind was provided and group III those converted from other types of signal-controlled crossings. Tables of all the results are provided and the method by which accidents at each site were analysed is indicated. From the data based on 40 pelican crossings of group I it was found not to be possible to ascribe a safety benefit directly to the conversion. The data based on 31 pelican crossings of group II indicated that there had been more accidents. The effects of the presence of other measures at each site have been investigated and tables of results are included. (A) /TRRL/
