PERFORMANCE OF STERN PADDLE WHEEL SHIP

This paper describes the performance of the passenger ship Michigan, the first large ship with stern paddle wheel built in Japan. Design data, resistance and self-propulsion test results, and manoeuvring characteristics are given. The comparison between a screw propeller and a paddle wheel with regard to their respective effect on the bottom of Lake Biwa is discussed.
