CONTROLLED JACKING AND WEIGHING OF LARGE STRUCTURES

When heavy structures are to be jacked or weighed the following items are considered to be of paramount importance:- 1> Procedural documentation improved to eliminate the use of poor equipment. 2> Full calibration, before and after weighing, to reduce infiltration of erroneous results. 3> Regular testing of jacks and control systems to enhance safety. 4> Firm weight control system to give predictions before the weighing operation. 5> Closer liason between client, fabricator and weighing contractor to improve accuracy. 6> Use of dedicated jacking and weighing systems only to prevent hybrid system errors.
