EXPORT VERSION OF THE 50-M SINGLE ROLE MINEHUNTER

Vosper Thornycroft, who were awarded an MoD design and development contract in Jan. 1983 for the Royal Navy's new Single-Role Minehunter, introduced an export version of this 50-m grp minehunter at a recent R.N. equipment exhibition. The article briefly describes some features of this design and its mine counter-measures equipment, which includes a MAINS minehunting and navigation system and a Hyperfix position-fixing system. The craft has two Diesel propulsion engines of low magnetic permeability, each driving a Voith Schneider propeller; during minehunting, the VS propellers and bow thruster unit are driven by electric motors. A block diagram is included of the computer-based "action information organisation".
