WAYS OF CALCULATING PRESSURES EXERTED BY BULK GOODS

When dimensioning bulk carriers it is essential to know the pressure exerted by the cargo on the sides of the hold. There are numerous theories for calculating the pressures exerted by bulk goods. A few soil pressure theories known from soil mechanics are described to facilitate the application of these procedures to calculation of the static pressure exerted by non-cohesive granular bulk goods on the sides of their containments.
