STATIC AND FATIGUE TESTING OF 2024 A - SIC <F-9> T-4

This Report describes and presents the results of an experimental programme to determine the mechanical properties of whisker- reinforced SiC-A1 composites under static and cyclic loads. All tests were conducted on unnotched specimens in simple tension. To establish the variation of material properties with in-plane direction, the specimens were cut with their longitudinal axes containing 0 deg., 45 deg. and 90 deg. angles with the extrusion direction. Significant differences in static and fatigue properties were found in the three specimen orientations.
