AN INVESTIGATION OF BOUNDARY LAYER TRANSITION ON SHIP MODELS

The boundary layer transition on two ship models has been investigated by i> numerical calculations and by ii> measurements. The comparative study revealed that transition may occur in a wide region between the predicted neutral stability line and Granville's transition line. The calculated spatial amplification factor, corresponding to the measured transition varies considerably, but as a rough approximation the critical amplification factor may be taken as e to the power 5.
