OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY CONVERSION MOORED PIPE/MOBILE PLATFORM DESIGN STUDY

This report is in microfiche form. Various configurations have been proposed for OTEC platform, cold-water pipe and mooring assemblies; the majority envisage the pipe permanently attached to the platform, and the platform permanently moored on station. This can result in high stresses in the pipe due to platform motions. An alternative, which is investigated in this report, is to moor the pipe permanently in place, and provide a flexible transition to the platform which would decouple the pipe from the platform motions, and could be disconnected to permit the platform to be shifted.
