CONDITION MONITORING OF COMPONENTS OF A MARINE STEAM TURBINE PLANT IN SERVICE

The Author presents a method of constructing a mathematical model in which changes in various parameters <such as pressures and temper- atures> are combined in an equation for the change in the heat input in a geared steam turbine system. He explains how such an equation can be used as a basis for diagnostic monitoring of those parameter changes that are likely to have the greatest and potentially harmful influence on the working of the plant. In this procedure certain "standard" <or normal> working conditions have to be known in advance. The algorithm for evaluating the diagnostic equation by computer is given. The method, although applied here to a steam turbine plant, is more general and could be used with suitable adaptation to other plants where condition monitoring is carried out.
