GENERAL AND EMERGENCY MACHINERY REPAIRS WITH SPECIAL METAL COMPOUNDS

The Author, of Belzona Molecular Ltd, briefly describes the scope of the technology of cold curing resin and metal compounds which are now established as a means of repairing damaged or worn metal surfaces. In the marine industry this damage is most frequently caused by erosion/corrosion, impingement by high-velocity water flow, and cavitation. The paper then describes various examples of repairs using cold curing compounds. The examples include: wet cylinder liners; heat exchanger covers and diversion bars; condenser tube plates; propulsion shafts; propellers; pintles and rudders; and bow thrust units and Kort nozzles.
