NOMOGRAMS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF HYDRODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF SHIP ROLLING

The Authors refer to Russian analytical and experimental work on the hydrodynamic coefficients of rolling motion. These studies, however, did not specifically consider the case where the hull form has an elliptical section. To fill this gap, rolling experiments on ship models with elliptical sections were carried out at the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute. This article presents the analysed results, summarised in the form of nomograms from which the entrained mass moment of inertia, and the damping coefficients of rolling, can be readily found for hulls with elliptical, or near-elliptical, sections.
