FATIGUE FAILURE PROBABILITY OF LONGITUDINAL HULL MEMBERS

Corrosion wear of longitudinal strength members of the hull will affect the fatigue failure probability of the structure, but this problem has received relatively little attention in the technical literature. In this article the Authors show how the weakening of the structure by corrosion can be taken into account in probability density calculations. The effect of corrosion on the section modulus, which is one of the factors entering the calculations, is based on statistical data of the Soviet Register of Shipping.
