FUEL ECONOMY AT SEA

The article briefly considers the losses in propulsive power which can result from changes in various factors such as hull main dimensions, displacement, propeller efficiency, blade area, etc. These factors can have an influence on fuel consumption of more than 50%. This figure can be minimised by sensitivity analysis as shown for the examples of an 80,000-dwt tanker and a 12,000 cum ro-ro ship.
