OBSERVATOR INTRODUCES THE WORLD'S FIRST DIGITAL ADAPTIVE STEERING CONTROL

The MK 82 adaptive autopilot developed by Observator Instrument Engineers was demonstrated for the first time at the Europoort '83 maritime exhibition. The MK 82 differs from its more simple counterparts by using adaptive filtering of the quick turning movements caused by wave motion and the effect of heavy weather. The reaction time is very fast <20 seconds> in contrast to the majority of existing autopilots <up to 20 minutes>. The design parameters and performance of the MK 82 are briefly described.
