UK-BUILT GEARED MINI-BULKER DEVELOPED FOR THE TIMBER/CONTAINER TRADES
This ship, named Norbrit Faith, is the first of two 2300 t.d.w. sisterships <the other being Norbrit Hope> ordered from Cochrane Shipbuilders by North British Shipping Ltd for trading in timber, containers, or bulky or awkward cargoes with underdeveloped areas where limited harbour facilities call for a special type of ship. The vessel has a single large box-shaped hold served by two 10-ton travelling cranes. Main propulsion is from a turbocharged 8-cylinder Allen medium-speed Diesel, developing 999 b.h.p. at 720 rpm. This drives a c.p. propeller through a reduction gearbox. Manoeuvrability is aided by a bow thruster. The hull form was derived from the BSRA methodical series. Main particulars of Norbrit Faith:- Length, o.a. 70.12m, b.p. 65.00m; Breadth 13.00m; Depth 6.00m; Service speed 11kn.
