NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING USING ELECTROMAGNETIC INSTRUMENTATION

Mechanical, structural and geometrical properties of metals, such as the presence of defects, hardness, degree of heat treatment and dimensions can often be tested non-destructively by electromagnetic methods. These include the use of eddy currents and magnetic particles, which are particularly effective for locating surface and sub-surface defects and the application of magnetic hysteresis. This article describes the established techniques and some of their recent developments.
