INVESTIGATION OF FORCES AND SHAFT TORQUE OF A SINGLE-PROFILE RUDDER SYMMETRIC AND ASYMMETRIC IN THE PROPELLER STREAM

A model test programme has been performed to investigate the effect of variations of rudder position behind the propeller on rudder forces and shaft moments. Measurements were carried out for variations in the x <longitudinal> and y <lateral> directions. The results suggest that the effect of varying the distance between propeller and rudder in the x and y directions is dependent on marginal conditions such as speed of advance and type of flow <e.g. attached or separated>.
