FATIGUE TESTING IN NATURAL AND MARINE CORROSION ENVIRONMENTS SUBSTITUTE OCEAN WATERS

Rotating beam fatigue specimens in HY-80 steel, 17-4 PH steel and 5083-H116 aluminium with minimum test section diameter of 14.3mm were cycled to final fracture under freely corroding conditions in three flowing, fully-oxygenated environments:- <1> Fresh natural seawater; <2> ASTM substitute ocean water with trace heavy metals, Cu, Ba, Zn, Ag; <3> 3.5% sodium chloride solution. The results are presented graphically and briefly discussed.
