DETERMINING THE TORQUE OF A (DIESEL) SKL-NVD26-A ENGINE UNDER OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS

The article presents the results of an experimental study whose aim was to develop a simple method of calculating the torque of a Diesel engine from a few measurements that can be easily taken on board ship. The engine chosen was one widely used in Bulgarian inland navigation shipping; it is rated at 300 hp, 750 rpm. The parameters selected for the torque calculation were: engine rpm, setting of the fuel delivery valve, and supercharger air delivery pressure. On the basis of this study, formulae are presented expressing the torque as a function of the parameters mentioned above. With the aid of these formulae and a nomogram, also shown, the torque can be calculated with adequate accuracy.
