PRESSURE SIGNATURES OF GREAT LAKES BULK CARRIERS IN SHALLOW WATER AND RESTRICTED CHANNELS

This report is in microfiche form. Drawdown, or squat, is a noticeable feature of large Great Lakes vessels when transitting shallow water or restricted channels. A simple hydrodynamic model of a ship channel is used to estimate the amplitude, duration, and shape of the drawdown phenomenon for various existing and projected classes of Great Lakes ships operating in typical channel cross-sections.
