FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF AN EXPERIMENTAL METHOD TO OPTIMISE THE WAVE POWER OF SHIPS

This report is in microfiche form. Research has continued in the Webb Institute towing tank using the XY wave survey method on a merchant ship model. The XY method of wave survey is a means of assessing ship hull forms from a resistance point of view <see also Abs. No. 59529 May 1983>. The ultimate objective is to develop improved hull forms requiring less power. The tests discussed in this report involved a stern bulb, a vertically distributed bow bulb, and a bow bulb/ protruberance combination. Model tests were made at various speeds and at draughts ranging from full load to light ballast.
