SELF INSTALLABLE FLOATING PRODUCTION FACILITY REQUIRES ONLY LIGHT SUPPORT CRAFT

The Tazerka field is situated some 56 km offshore Tunisia in water depths of 140-300 m. The relatively small size of the field has necessitated the development and installation of a self-installable, integrated floating production, storage and offloading <FPSO> facility. This facility, comprising a converted 210,000-dwt tanker and a single anchor leg storage <SALS> mooring and fluid transfer system was successfully installed in October, 1982. Only relatively low cost vessels were needed to tow the various components to the site and to assist with final hookup of the SALS mooring and the fluid transfer system. This paper presents the design and step-by-step installation procedures developed to ensure safe, reliable and speedy installation without using heavy construction equipment.
