The development of Multi-Point Weighing Systems <MPWS> has been restricted because of the erroneous belief that the higher the number of support points the greater the inaccuracy of the system due to the difficulty of finding the planar C of G. From experience gained with a MPWS in weighing modules for North Sea platforms, it is contended that accuracy of the required degree can be achieved by using strain gauging. The results of on-site weighings and design calculations are compared and discussed.
