AIDS TO NAVIGATION - TURN LIGHTS - PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: EFFECT OF TURN LIGHTING CHARACTERISTICS, BUOY ARRANGEMENT, AND SHIP SIZE ON NIGHT-TIME PILOTING

This report is in microfiche form. Channel marker buoys located at bends in the channel are referred to as turn lights. A series of tests performed on a simulator, using experienced pilots, is described. The variables were flash rate of the turn lights; random versus synchronised flashing of the set of buoys marking a turn; use of 2 or 3 buoys to mark a turn; and ship size.
