SHIP MOTION TRADE-OFF ANALYSIS FOR THE CONTAINER OFFLOADING AND TRANSFER SYSTEM

This report is in microfiche form. The Container Offloading and Transfer System is envisaged for use when discharging container ships in the absence of port facilities. In this phase of the study ship motion response amplitude operations were predicted for three container ships and three lighters. Surge, heave, sway, pitch roll and yaw were also computed for various sea spectra. Ship and crane motion data for head, quartering, and beam wave incidence angles are tabulated, with plots comparing response amplitude operators for motions of lighters as a function of wave incident angles. Significant displacements, velocities and accelerations have been calculated for various rigid-boom crane configrations. A sample procedure for using the large amount of motion data available in the design of the Container Offloading and Transfer System is presented.
