ALFA-LAVAL BREAKS THE 991 DENSITY BARRIER WITH ALCAP CENTRIFUGAL SEPARATOR

Some time ago, Alfa-Laval advised ship operators to run centrifugal separation plants <for heavy fuel> in series as a purifier and clarifier <see Abs. No. 56683, Dec. 1981>. However, the purifier's water-seal limits centrifugal treatment to fuels having a maximum density of 991 kg/cum at 15 deg C, and the company has now developed ALCAP, a system intended to treat fuels with densities between 991 and 1010 kg/cum and water content up to 12 p.c. The system, which will be available from Jan. 1984 after some further testing, is said to remove catalytic fines and other inorganic solids.
