MV ATLANTIC SUPERIOR BUILT AT COLLINGWOOD AND PORT ARTHUR CSL'S LATEST OCEAN-GOING LAKER

The MV Atlantic Superior is Canada Steamship Lines' modern link between the Great Lakes system and world-wide trading. During the fabrication of the vessel the latest techniques in ship design and computerized methodology were used; general arrangement drawing and the list of major suppliers are given. The MV Atlantic Superior is unloaded by a two-belt hold conveyor system located below the twin hoppered bottom of the cargo compartments. These conveyors have a capacity of 6000 tons per hour of iron ore or stone or 4800 tons per hour of coal. The main propulsion system consists of one reversing Sulzer diesel engine <model 6RLA66> with a maximum continuous rating of 11,100 bhp at 124 rpm, directly connected by means of a hollow bored propeller shaft to a Lips <4> four-bladed variable pitch propeller operating in a steering nozzle.
