RECENT EXPERIENCE IN MODEL SCALE SIMULATION OF TENSION LEG PLATFORMS

Several model tests of tension leg platforms have been conducted recently at Offshore Technology Corporation. Some new and challenging design problems which are unique to tension leg platforms have become the focal point of these tests. These have required the development of new modelling techniques and methods of data processing. A general review of TLP characteristics and modelling requirements is presented along with a description of recent test programmes and modelling techniques. Research areas of particluar interest in recent tests are described and some recommendations for future research are made.
