AUXILIARY POWER FOR BIG DIESEL-POWERED SHIPS

The trend by US shipowners and operators in recent years to heavy fuel main propulsion diesel engines is now being followed by a trend toward "heavy fuel" burning ship service diesel generators. For ships with high electrical loads, the selection of a medium speed four- stroke engine can be the optimum selection. The range of operating cost for an Enterprise model DSR-46 engine for operation on fuels ranging from MDO to 3500 Red.1 is outlined.
