CALCULATION METHOD AND STRUCTURAL DETAILS ANALYSIS OF AN LNG/LPG TANKER

To achieve the necessary degree of safety in the design and construction of LNG/LPG ships, complex calculation methods have evolved requiring the use of computer facilities. Drawing upon its extensive experience as a Classification Society, Bureau Veritas has studied simplified procedures for checking the strength of gas carriers and for approval of hull drawings; in addition, these procedures enable shipyards to develop the design of a new project. The results of these studies are summarised in a flow chart indicating the steps of the design analysis. The process begins with the selection of steel grades followed by dynamic analysis and concluding with the arrangement of structural details. Both LNG and LPG ships with membrane and independent tanks type A are dealt with.
