COMMENTS ON THE DIRECTIONAL INFLUENCE OF PROPELLERS

This is Part 3 of a progress report from the Working Group on Manoeuvring <AGSV-MU> of the Schiffbautechnischen Gesellscahft <STG> presented at a seminar on "Shiphandling" held 8th October in Lubeck. Recent work in practical and theoretical hydrodynmics is reviewed to provide a new understanding of ship mnaoeuvring phenomena. On the basis of this some recommendations are made for ensuring the safe manoeuvring and stopping of single and twin-screw ships. Both fixed and controllable-pitch propellers are considered.
