144,000 DEADWEIGHT TON RESTRICTED DRAUGHT COLLIER DESIGN

To take advantage of the growing U.S. export coal trade, a design for a restricted draught collier has been developed. The restricted draught concept allows for economies of scale unrealisable with more conventionally proportioned ships. The concept design of a diesel propelled ship with optimisation trade-off also includes sensitivity studies of the effects of varying deadweight, speed, length, beam, draught, steel type, engine type, etc. The preliminary design of a 144,000-dwt diesel-propelled ship is presented and compared with conventional Panamax hulls of equivalent draught.
