A NEW BREED OF VLCC: THE VERY LARGE CONTAINER CARRIER

It is concluded that the cost of transportation can be substantially reduced by using container carriers more than double the maximum size existing at the present time, but running at much lower speed. Such giant ships may constitute the future fourth generation of container carriers, which will require container terminals with increased parking area and more container handling units.
