FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS FOR NDT VALIDITY AND STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

It is well recognised in the offshore industry that present underwater NDT practices often yield anomalous results that do not generate sufficient confidence. In this paper, the author seeks to determine the causes of this situation and to elaborate certain procedural and statutory remedies. Following a review of the fundamentals of engineering inspection, differences between the proven land-based practices and underwater practices are identified in order to define what improvements should and can be made.
