TREND ANALYSIS OF FUTURE BRIDGE SYSTEM

It is now some 20 years since the introduction of the first automated ship and during this period the techniques of automation have undergone considerable development. Ships operated by about 20 crew members are now a practical reality and it is anticipated that ships with a complement of about 10 crew members will soon come into existence. This paper presents some design concepts for future bridge systems for ordinary merchant ships with a complement of about 10 personnel.
