DEVICES FOR MEASURING ANGLES OF INCLINATION OF A SHIP AND WAVE HEIGHTS IN A NATURAL SEAWAY

The Author, of the Peene shipyard at Wolgast <E. Germany>, discusses in some detail the design of <i> measuring devices for a ship's angles of inclination in a natural seaway, and in particular devices that are based on spiral springs and strain gauges, as used in HLW acceleration pick-ups, and <ii> complementary devices for measuring wave heights in the determination of the natural seaway, and in particular the "Wellenreiter" buoy type. The particular devices, and their associated electrical and other arrangements, are described; they are subject to further development and improvement. The importance of such devices in seakeeping studies is mentioned.
