CORRELATION OF ANALYTICAL PREDICTION OF SHIP RESISTANCE IN ICE WITH MODEL AND FULL SCALE TEST RESULTS

This paper attempts to display a reasonably large spectrum of ice- breaking ship types, and to show the correlation between total ship resistance predicted by one analytical model and the results of model and full scale tests for these ships. The intent is to demonstrate that the problem of predicting ship resistance in level, continuous ice, can be addressed through analytical techniques, and that the resulting predictions can be quite accurate, dependable and yet fully sensitive to variation in key ship and ice parameters.
