DISTURBANCES FROM THE MOTORWAY THROUGH KUNGAELV - TRIKO II 1975

STOERNINGAR FRAAN MOTORVAEGEN GENOM KUNGAELV-TRIKO II 1975

A sociological interview survey had been carried out in 1972 in a housing area in Kungalv municipality concerning the effect of the nearby motorway viaduct. A new survey was made in March 1975 in order to find the effect of noise reduction screens erected in 1974. It was found that there was a reduction of 22 percentage points in the number disturbed by motorway noise, that general comfort in the housing area was higher, that the effect of noise on health was regarded to be the same, and that it was almost exclusively heavy traffic which was a source of irritation. With regard to the effect of the screens, it was found that 59% considered that annoyance is less than a year ago, that 80% considered the screens reduced traffic noise, and that the residents had proposed lengthening of the screens to mask the noise from the joints on the viaduct. It is this noise which is regarded as the worst, since it is caused by large lorries which pass at irregular intervals, and the noise is therefore unexpected. /TRRL/
