A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH OF TRAFFIC SAFETY IN ADVERSE WEATHER AND ROAD CONDITIONS

This paper gives an overview of the DRIVE II project ROSES (ROad Safety Enhancement Systems), which aims at improving traffic safety in adverse weather conditions. The ROSES systems consist of in-vehicle safety monitoring and driver support equipment and an infrastructure based central monitoring system which combines inputs on road and weather conditions from various sources to derive the current and predicted safety level and recommended maximum speed. Field trials of the ROSES systems are conducted at test sites in the Netherlands and in Wales. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 868006.
