A first evaluation of ATT applications in the test-site ARENA (Gothenburg, Sweden) has been made, giving a lot of useful experience for future studies. The applications tested included: a) urban traffic control; b) public transport management; c) parking management; d) driver information and route guidance; e) automatic debiting; and f) cruise control. One major finding is that results from field trials often are of too limited scope to be useful in assessing large scale effects. Calculations, micro and macro simulations will be necessary to assess the effects of implementation of ATT if the costs should stay within economic limits. Increased resources are therefore needed for evaluation in the next phase. Field trials should be directly oriented at behavioural aspects which can be fed into the traffic simulation models to evaluate large scale effects. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 868006.
