FIBER OPTIC MULTI-CHANNEL TRAFFIC SURVEILLANCE NETWORKS

Large traffic management installations require distributed surveillance systems which cover wide areas. These systems, which consist of hundreds of closed circuit television cameras, access control points and voice service call boxes, are usually integrated into a single system using high bandwidth data and video fiber optic backbones. Plans are being made to connect some of these surveillance systems to a wide area network, integrating into the surrounding region's other traffic management networks. This article discusses the management, monitoring and maintenance philosophies associated with these large multichannel video systems.
