EMERGING CONCEPTS AND PRODUCTS FOR HIGHWAY SYSTEMS. NCHRP-IDEA PROGRAM ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT 1

This annual report presents a summary of progress on investigations conducted as part of the Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) Program for the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP). The NCHRP-IDEA Program is jointly funded by the Federal Highway Administration and state highway agencies in cooperation with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. NCHRP-IDEA nurtures new technologies, methods, and processes for application to highway systems in broad technical areas such as highway design and construction, materials, operations, and maintenance. The NCHRP-IDEA Program is managed by the National Research Council's Transportation Research Board as part of a broader program that includes Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems (IVHS-IDEA) and transit systems (Transit-IDEA). This report includes a summary list of all IDEA awards and emerging products in these IDEA programs. IDEA project costs range from a low of about $30,000 to a high of about $100,000. Most NCHRP-IDEA investigations are designed to be completed within about a year.
